Haenertsburg sits high in the Magoebaskloof area, where mountain air, forests and winding roads create a completely different pre-safari landscape.

Mist, forest, plantations, mountain views and outdoor experiences make Magoebaskloof one of the great contrasts on the journey toward Kruger National Park.

Tzaneen is a natural place to pause, eat, stay and explore before continuing east. The subtropical setting gives the journey another distinct chapter.

East of Tzaneen, the route descends into warmer Lowveld country. The scenery becomes drier, broader and increasingly connected to the wildlife landscapes ahead.

Phalaborwa is the final urban stop before entering Kruger National Park through Phalaborwa Gate, connecting the R71 journey directly with the park.

The journey reaches one of Africa’s most recognised wilderness destinations — after mountains, subtropical country and the Lowveld have already made the road memorable.
